4 March at Vortex Jazz Club, London
Two Rivers Records launches its first two albums at the Vortex, setting the tone for the label's sound and focus. This is a double bill of unique and unusual music beginning with a solo performance by UK bassist Calum Gourlay to launch his debut album, "Calum Gourlay: Live at the Ridgeway".
Having played or the past ten years with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Kit Downes, Trish Clowes, Stacey Kent, Sheila Jordan and many more, Gourlay's debut album brings diversity and experience into a live solo performance at London's iconic "jazz house", incorporating original work and material from Ellington to Joni Mitchell.
"Gourlay filled the space with a combination of spinning bass beats and a virtuosic exploration of harmony evoking Bach". Mathew Wright. The Arts Desk.
This is followed by the launch of the first album of a trio of Berlin-based saxophonist Tobias Delius with Olie Brice on bass and Mark Sanders on drums, three of Europe's leading free jazz improvisers. As a trio, they toured the UK in 2013 as well as appearing at the Gronigen JazzFletsTour Festival, nominated by Jazzism magazine as one of the gigs of 2013, and described as "A breathtakingly supple and soulful sound. Heavenly music in a sacred space".
